New Head of Information Technology

Maurice C. YorkThe NCSU Libraries has appointed Maurice C. York as the Head of Information Technology.

York is responsible for managing the Information Technology department that develops, implements, and supports advanced information systems for the Libraries. He has served as the department’s Interim Head and before that as its Associate Head. York has provided both managerial and technical leadership for major initiatives, including a server migration, E-matrix product development, and the implementation of Reserves Direct, a new E-Reserves system.

York came to the NCSU Libraries from Emory University where he served as Team Leader for Circulation and E-Learning Services while planning and leading programmatic developments. He actively contributed to the redesign of Emory Libraries’ web presence and co-founded the New Technologies Think Tank, a joint Library-IT group of developers and designers.

Active in the profession, York chairs the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) Top Tech Trends Committee and served on the Nomination Committee to select candidates for the LITA President and Board members. He was a participant in the Triangle Research Libraries Network Management Academy. His publications and presentations on the use of information technologies in libraries are wide ranging, and include topics such as Google Scholar, RFID, and podcasting. He is co-author, with Rick Spaulding, of two recently published books, Ralph Waldo Emerson: The Infinitude of the Private Man and Natural History of the Intellect: The Last Lectures of Ralph Waldo Emerson (Wrightwood Press). York earned the Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies from Bard College.
