Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Title IX

N. C. State Women's Softball players, 1981

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in all university student services and academic programs. To mark the anniversary, campus groups including the NCSU Libraries, Women In Science & Engineering (WISE), the Office for Institutional Equity & Diversity (OIED), the Department of Athletics, and the Women’s Center collaborated to develop a variety of programs and activities to highlight how Title IX has changed the landscape for higher education for both male and female students.

“Celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX provides an opportune time to reflect on the positive changes it has brought about, especially the increased participation of women in intercollegiate athletics and academics at NC State, and to recognize the need for continued progress toward equity,” said Joanne Woodard, Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity as well as Title IX Coordinator.

A website (go.ncsu.edu/titleix) featuring information and interesting facts about Title IX is available. The anniversary week programs below are free and open to the public; students are especially encouraged to attend.
