The NCSU Libraries recently made available over 9,000 e-books published from 2008 through 2010 from the Springer English eBook Collection. Springer supplies one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of digitized scientific, technical and medical books. The e-books cover all subject areas, but provide a strong emphasis on physical and life sciences and engineering. Several heavily-used book series and reference works are included; among them are: Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Lecture Notes in Mathematics, Lecture Notes in Physics, NATO Science for Peace and Security, Topics in Current Chemistry, Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, Encyclopedia of Entomology and Springer Handbook of Robotics.
The Libraries chose to purchase from Springer because they offer a cost savings over purchasing the corresponding print versions and thus allow us to secure more content for the campus. Springer also has very favorable licensing and business terms that will directly benefit you, including broad academic use rights, perpetual ownership, unlimited concurrent users, and participation in Portico, a third party archive. In addition, each book chapter is available as a PDF file without digital rights management. This means the chapters can be downloaded, printed, and transferred to a PDA or Kindle.
