Football coach Tom O’Brien and the North Carolina State University Libraries are collaborating to pay tribute to the school’s student athletes through a campaign to name a high-profile group study room in their honor at the new James B. Hunt Jr. Library.
57,000 fans pack Carter-Finley Stadium to show their support on game day, most no doubt there to cheer the Wolfpack towards touchdown after touchdown. In an innovative and fun challenge to Pack supporters, Coach O’Brien is asking fans this season to channel a portion of their unparalleled spirit and energy to saluting the hard academic work that student athletes put in each year. Ads in the The Wolfpacker online magazine and on Carter-Finley’s jumbotron are requesting Pack supporters to anticipate the Wolfpack’s success this year—and to invest in the future of NC State student athletes—by pledging $1-$50 or more for each touchdown that the Pack scores this year. During the 2009 regular season, the Wolfpack scored 48 touchdowns. To endow and name the new group study room, fans need to pledge $35,000.
“Our student-athletes count on the libraries’ many resources—study rooms, research tools, technological services, and a vast number of other resources—to help them excel while obtaining their degrees at NC State,” explains Coach O’Brien. “I’ve made my pledge to support the NCSU Libraries. Please join me and make your pledge today.”
The Hunt Library, currently under construction, will be a signature building that will serve as the intellectual and social heart of the rapidly growing population on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Designed to immerse students in the latest technologies and a bold, iconic architecture, the Hunt Library is expected to be nothing less than the best learning and collaborative space in the nation.
