Students Help NCSU Libraries Celebrate Banned Books Week

Diana Quetti performs a scene from "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton.

In celebration of Banned Books Week (September 30-October 6), NC State University students will be performing scenes adapted from books that have been banned or challenged. Celebrate your freedom to read what you choose!

Red, White & Banned

Tuesday, October 2 from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Studio Theatre, Thompson Hall

The performance is free and open to the public and is a collaboration between NCSU Libraries and University Theatre. Student performers include Lizzy Ozamiz, Jordan Necamp, Diana Quetti, Allison McAlister Hedges, Nick Tran, and Meghan Leonard.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, the only national celebration of the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores, and libraries. More than 1,000 books have been challenged since 1982. More information about Banned Books Week and books that have been banned or challenged can be found on the American Library Association’s website.
